John Cohen

Co-Founder/Co-Managing Partner

John is responsible for the day-to-day activities of Toro Real Estate Partners, including strategic direction of the company, formulation of investment strategy, acquisitions, dispositions, asset management, and investor relations.

Prior to co-founding Toro Real Estate Partners, John founded JC Property Group; a real estate investment company with primary focus on value add multifamily acquisitions. He has been investing in real estate since 2010, having started by buying tax deeds and tax liens. In 2013, he did over $3,250,000 in real estate transactions, as a residential broker. In 2014, he switched his focus to the multifamily asset class and became a member of a group that closed $56 million worth of transactions. Before leaving Marcus & Millichap to focus 100% of his time on the growth of his company, he was a team member of a group that sold over 26 multifamily properties in the Brooklyn and Queens market. Prior to his involvement real estate, John was a licensed (series 7 and 63) stockbroker, but decided that brick and mortar investments were far less speculative than the stock market.

John is from Long Island, NY and played baseball at Queens College where he graduated with a degree in Economics.

Donald A. DiRenzo

Co-Founder/Co-Managing Partner

Don is responsible for the day-to-day activities of Toro Real Estate Partners, including strategic direction of the company, formulation of investment strategy, acquisitions, dispositions, asset management, and investor relations.

Don began his 30+ years Real Estate Career at Cushman & Wakefield where his experience includes commercial office and investment sales brokerage, occupancy cost analysis, and investment underwriting for existing and to be developed office buildings, hotels, and multi-family properties. Don’s leasing transactions totaled more than 1 Million square feet and his Sale & Financing transactions are valued at more than $500 million. Don consistently ranked in the Firm’s Top 100 Brokerage Professionals nationally.

Don has personally acquired & sold shopping center, net lease, condominium, single family development, development and multi-family property real estate investments.

In 2012, Don formed MDCD Partners LLC, a Real Estate Investment Company, focusing on multi-family properties where he acquired & sold a 280 Unit Property in North Charleston, SC as well as an acquisition of a 228-unit property in Fairfield, OH. In 2015 he combined MDCD Partners with John Cohen’s JC Property Group to establish Toro Real Estate Partners as Co-Managing Partner. Within their first 8 months together, Don & John will have added three properties, 640 units, valued at more than $45,000,000 to their existing portfolios.

Don is from Long Island, NY and graduated from Boston University’s School of Management and Finance in 1984. He is a member of the Real Estate Board of New York and actively involved with the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation.

Chris Grenzig

Operations Manager

Chris has been an active investor for many years. He earned his BS in Business Management from Hofstra University where he was a member of the Division 1 Men’s Soccer team. This experience taught him the importance of teamwork, discipline towards goals, and the passion to compete and succeed. Upon graduation in 2014, Chris went into coaching at the Division 2 collegiate level. In 2015, he decided to pursue his interests actively in investments and became hired as a licensed stock broker (Series 7 and 63). In reviewing investment options, Chris decided that there was less volatility and greater rewards in real estate. He is an active investor in multifamily real estate and is pursuing real estate investment on a full time basis. The unique combination of coaching at the collegiate level and strong financial background adds great depth and dimension to our team.

Lauren Marasco

Administrative Assistant

Lauren joined our team in 2016 and brings over 10+ years in experience in office support and administrative responsibilities coming from Custom Boards Design, LTD as the Office Manager. She is responsible for a wide range of administrative and office support activities for the company to facilitate the efficient operation of the organization.

Lauren is a strong planner and problem solver who readily adapts to change and works independently or in groups to exceed expectations. She is able to juggle multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines without compromising quality. She graduated Nassau Community College in 2004 with her Associate’s Degree in Liberal Arts and also holds her Real Estate License in the state of New York

Matthew McCourry

Southeast Multifamily Specialist

A South Carolina native Matthew grew up with a passion for real estate and learning. He graduated from Coastal Carolina University in 2013 with a Masters in Business Administration and immediately began investing in Real Estate. After acquiring a sizable portfolio of single-family & small-multifamily assets, he began wanting to do bigger deals; and one year later joined the Toro team representing the boots-on-the ground in the Southeast Market. Matthew has experience in owning, operating, underwriting, and scouting multifamily deals.

Matthew Lamstein


As a partner in and co-chair of Lazer, Aptheker, Rosella & Yedid’s Real Estate practice group, Mr. Lamstein focuses his practice on commercial real estate with particular emphasis on acquisitions, leasing and financing transactions. Mr. Lamstein has substantial experience representing banks, insurance companies and other major financial institutions as well as owners and developers of real property in connection with complex commercial real estate transactions, including the structuring, financing, acquisition, sale and development of commercial, residential and mixed use properties throughout the United States. In addition, Mr. Lamstein is a board member of the Advancement for Commerce Industry & Technology, Inc. Mr. Lamstein drafts and reviews all legal documents pertaining to the purchase and sale of investment properties.

Andrew Zwerman


Andrew Zwerman is a principal at the CPA firm Wagner & Zwerman LLP. The Company has been providing accounting and tax services to its clients for more than thirty years. The firm is comprised of three partners and thirty-five staff members with locations in New York City and Long Island. Wagner & Zwerman LLP has been peer reviewed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and recognized for its high standards. Andrew Zwerman positions each deal in the most taxed advantaged way for our investors at purchase and disposition, as well as keeping impeccable records during the repositioning process.

Alfredo Torres

Banking/Financial Expert

Alfredo Torres is a managing member of the JCAT property group.  He is an experienced retail/commercial banker with 14 years of banking management experience.  Alfredo has extensive know of retirement planning, lending, cash management, and overall banking needs.   His major focus was increasing consumer households, deepening consumer relationships, improving consumer retention, generating core deposit growth, and increasing non-interest income.

His multi-family experience includes initiating and developing cross-sell opportunities, including active participation in related projects to enhance client penetration. Facilitate broker/client integration with Banking on Multi-family referral business, and oversee effective transition between same. Manage day-to-day interaction with various internal and external customers in accordance with Bank strategic initiatives with respect to Deposit generation. Manage day-to-day interaction with broker and direct lending relationships to ensure effective process management in accordance with service level expectations.  Perform initial loan due diligence, including drive-by property inspection, cash flow analysis, initial credit due diligence and related competencies to qualify loan requests for consideration.  Keep abreast of market, industry and investment trends that may have an impact on the commercial real estate market. Obtain market/submarket data specific to vacancy allowance, collection loss, asking and effective rents, sales price and other pertinent information

Alfredo is responsible for the day-to-day activities of JCAT, including strategic direction of the company, formulation of investment strategy, acquisitions, dispositions, asset management, and investor relations. He is also a managing member Toro Real estate Partners. In 2015 Alfredo began using his commercial credit skills to analyze and underwrite deals as investment opportunities.
